Woodwind Repairs and Services

WOODWIND REPAIRS

We repair:

  • Saxophones
  • Clarinets
  • Flutes
  • Oboes
  • Bassoons
  • Piccolo’s

Woodwind repairs take place on-site at my workshop. Generally, they fall into 3 categories.

WOODWIND CHECKDOWNS

The instrument is checked for leaks, missing corks and felts with the keys remaining on body. If there are pads and corks that need to be replaced this is done at a small extra cost. This is recommended for newer instruments within the first couple of years of playing or after an overhaul.

WOODWIND SERVICE

This is a more thorough version of the checkdown as it involves removal of all keys and cleaning inside and outside of the instrument. Pads and corks are replaced as necessary. This is recommended every 2 years or for second-hand instruments depending on the amount of use.

WOODWIND FULL OVERHAUL SERVICE

This involves removal of all pads and corks and a thorough clean along with more complicated repair work that may be necessary. This is usually recommended for an instrument where most of the pads are on the way out and for vintage second-hand instruments.

There are lots of other jobs that can be done for a minimum charge but the best way of costing work is to let me see the instrument.

COVID-19 UPDATE

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are now offering lessons online via Zoom or WhatsApp. I have also carried out a COVID-19 risk assessment as laid out by the Musician’s Union following government guidelines. This, along with my newly built teaching studio, has allowed me to resume lessons in person.

I am also taking bookings for woodwind repairs under the proviso that all instruments are left 48 hours from arriving and being collected from the premises before being worked on or played. All instruments are thoroughly disinfected.
